Coronation Streetâs Dolly-Rose Campbell, who has been playing the role of Gemma Winter since 2014, is set to leave the soap after a decade, leaving fans heartbroken. Her character, Gemma, has always been at the centre of Weatherfield drama, from hiding her criminal past to raising quadruplets Aled, Bryn, Carys and Llio with husband Chesney.
The stressed-out mum was diagnosed with post-natal depression after her four children arrived, and she was dealt another blow when she was forced to work several jobs to keep her and Chesney afloat. In recent months, she has been left heartbroken following the death of her beloved twin brother Paul Foreman.

â
The builder, portrayed by Peter Ash, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease last year, and the character passed away in devastating scenes in September, leaving viewers sobbing. His death has deeply impacted his twin sister, but her family are concerned for her welfare as it emerges sheâs struggling with Paulâs passing.
In Mondayâs episode, she returned to her job at The Rovers Return, despite Chesney protesting that it was too soon for his wife to head back to work. Sadly, she became overwhelmed, and was forced to take refuge in the back of the pub away from prying eyes. Sheâs consoled by her brother Kit, who sweetly suggests he has a friend with a cottage in the Lake District, that could be a good location for Gemma to have a well-deserved getaway.
â
In a dramatic twist Gemma then leaves, with her decision supported by her husband, who recognises the importance of her focusing on her own mental health for the well-being of herself and their young children. Devoted viewers expressed their dismay at her departure from the ITV soap on the showâs official Facebook page.
Fans praised the actressâs portrayal of her characterâs ordeal, with one commenting, âShe is playing her character so well and going through hell,â while others conveyed sympathy over her need for a break, saying: âCanât blame her for needing a breather to find herself again.â
Hope was in the air as another fan added, âHope she comes back soon,â although some were taken aback by the suddenness of the exit, remarking, âSeems a bit sudden.â
Meanwhile, back on the Street, Chesneys life unravels as heâs left juggling work at Prima Doner and caring for the kids. In a spot of unintended chaos, Kirk steps into Chesneyâs shoes at the kebab shop and unknowingly serves a health inspector, potentially heralding trouble for Chesney.
