DANCING with the Stars’ Derek Hough and his wife Hayley Erbert have shared a heartbreaking video about the pain of their past miscarriage as they prepare to welcome their “rainbow baby.”
They shared the clip in a joint Instagram post on Wednesday as a tribute to that difficult time and in honor of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

It captured the sweet moment Derek
“This video is a tribute to a part of our story,” Derek, 40, and Hayley, 31, wrote at the beginning of the video.
“A chapter of loss, love, celebration, heartbreak and everything in between. Although we are so excited to be welcoming our rainbow soon, we honor our baby that never made it earthside.”
The clip ended with the pair crying in each other’s arms after learning they’d experienced a miscarriage.

“There are some things in life that change you forever. For us, this is one of those things. A chapter of love, loss, heartbreak, and everything in between,” the post’s caption began.
“As we are now in October, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we share this part of our story to honor our baby that never made it earthside.
“One in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, a silent heartbreak so many families know, and one we unfortunately had to experience. As we share this, know that there’s a rainbow not far behind,” they concluded.
BABY ON THE WAY
Derek and Hayley revealed in July that they’re expecting again in a heartwarming Instagram video.
It showed Derek walking toward his wife, and the two lovingly embraced.
Hayley then displayed their sonogram photos over Derek’s shoulder as they enjoyed the intimate moment together.
Restaurants and retailers are shutting down thousands of locations in weeks
“We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small,” their caption read.
LET IT SLIP?
They hadn’t revealed the sex of their child, although DWTS fans think Derek hinted at their baby’s gender during Tuesday night’s show.
It happened while the show’s former pro dancer-turned-judge was critiquing Olympic Gold Medalist Jordan Chiles and her partner Ezra Sosa’s performance.
It was Dedication Night in the ballroom, and Jordan’s father performed part of the routine with her, which touched the soon-to-be first-time dad, Derek.
“Watching you two dance really made me excited to have that own, my own moment with my…,” Derek said and paused briefly before adding, “my own child.”
Viewers wondered if the TV star almost slipped that he and Hayley are expecting a baby girl, given his hesitation before saying “child.”
“So is Derek having a girl,” one Reddit user speculated.
“I was just looking for a comment on this.. they said on socials they know the gender but weren’t announcing! I think he almost slipped up and caught himself for sure!””” another replied.
“I clocked that too, but the way he backed off it was awkward,” chimed in a third.

Derek previously expressed his excitement about becoming a father, telling People he was most looking forward to “experiencing things for the first time” and “being present” with his child.
Hayley and Derek tied the knot in August 2023, eight years after their romance began.
