Coronation Street Gail Platt’s return ‘sealed’ and fans don’t have to wait long

Coronation Street’s Gail Platt’s return date to the cobbles has been ‘unveiled’.

Gail (Helen Worth) made her debut on the ITV soap way back in 1974. As the unlucky-in-love mum-of-three, Gail went on to become one of the soap’s most iconic and beloved characters.

She also played a part in several big storylines over the years. From drama with her children David (Jack P. Shepherd) and Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and Nick Tisley (Ben Price) to shock murders and affairs, Gail’s time in Weatherfield was not been short of drama.

However, in June last year, it was announced that Helen was leaving the soap – with Helen, 73, saying: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.“

Gail’s exit storyline was set against her marriage to Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson). And on Christmas Day 2024, Gail said her goodbyes to the cobbles in an emotional hour-long episode after she and Jesse headed off abroad to France to start their new life.

Since then, Gail has been mentioned a few times – with David even visiting her earlier this year. And over on the soap recently, it’s been an exciting time for the rest of her family.

Last month, David’s wife Shona (Julia Goulding) announced the exciting news that she was pregnant with her first child with David – leaving him delighted.

But now, with the Platt set to get a brand new family member fans are convinced they know when the child’s grandma Gail will return to Weatherfield – and it’s soon.

On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person wrote: “Who thinks Gail will return when Shona gives birth?” Someone else agreed: “I’d love that, even if it’s a video appearance.” A third chimed in: “I thought that as well.”

Meanwhile in September, Shona actress Julia Goulding revealed that her new baby storyline ‘won’t be without its drama’ with ‘twists and turns’ ahead on the ITV soap.

When asked if there was exciting scenes ahead and some happy news, Julia told the Mirror: “Yeah, not that it’s without its drama.” Remaining coy, she then added: “There’s more drama on the way, definitely.”

Julia then teased this further, with it hinted it was linked to the new child on the way. She said: “What can I tease? I don’t know, apart from that there is gonna be lots of twists and turns for them regarding the future of their family… child…”
