Arizona Sheriff Reveals Nancy Guthrie Investigation Hit With DNA Setback That Could Take âMonthsâ

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has provided another update on the DNA evidence that was found in Nancy Guthrieâs home, and itâs sure to cause some more concern.
âOur lab tells us that there are challenges with it,â Nanos told Fox News, referencing the Florida lab. âThe technology is moving so fast and in such a frenzy that they think some of this stuff will resolve itself just in a matter of weeks, months, or maybe a year.â
The outlet added that itâs âunclear whether the DNA recovered inside Guthrieâs has been useful for the investigation,â as the samples are from âmore than one person, making it harder to run through national databases.â
Authorities Arenât Ruling Out The Possibility Of An Accomplice
In a recent statement to PEOPLE, a County Sheriffâs Department spokesperson explained that they are not ruling out the possibility of an accomplice, as thereâs no evidence the suspect was working alone.
âThe sheriff has said all along that while investigators are working to identify the person seen on the doorbell video, they are not ruling out that that was the only person involved,â the spokesperson said.
This update was confirmed to Fox News by another spokesperson, who said, ââŚa spokesperson for the Pima Country Sheriffâs Department said investigators are looking into the possibility that the person may have had an accomplice.â
Former FBI Agent Provides Potential Motive Behind Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping
GettyFormer FBI agent Jonny Grusing spoke with Fox News, detailing how authorities should be looking into the possibility that this crime was due to a âpersonal grievance.â
âItâs hard to be an expert in human behavior because itâs so unique to that person,â Grusing said. âYou know, Iâm just trying to use the experiences of different cases and trying to apply any sort of logic to this in the hopes that someone from the public who has thought it might be someone they know whether itâs his family or whether now itâs a coworker or friend or associate or whatever, to put that one puzzle piece together that says, âYes, and now I think it could be him.ââ
âIs there a chance, since we donât have audio, that he is either knocking on the door loudly or that he has pressed the ring doorbell, [that] heâs trying to get Nancy to answer the door, and heâs shielding himself from being seen as a masked person, so she will, in her confusion, open the door?â Grusing later added, asking rhetorically.
