Viewers of The Last Leg were left in shock last week as the Channel 4 sporting show took an explosive turn that saw former Conservative politician Penny Mordaunt branded a ‘condescending war-mongerer’ by one of the comedian guests.
Penny, 53, had a tense showdown with Belfast-born comedian Vittorio Angelone as the two clashed following a series of jibes made at her expense.
Joining Adam Hills, Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe in the studio on Friday – talk soon turned to Penny’s effort to support those looking to get into the arts.
Vittorio, 30, then took the opportunity to hit out at Penny, turning to her and saying: ‘Penny has always been such a supporter of disabled people.
‘You’re very supporter of the supportive of the prosthetics industry, you were promoting on Twitter an arms fair in Saudia Arabia recently?’
The comedian made a nod towards images shared by Penny on X, formerly Twitter, of her visiting the World Defence Show in Saudi Arabia.

‘Many congratulations to all the UK companies who exhibited at the World Defence Show,’ she had penned, alongside photos of the event, in February.
Continuing the savage takedown as the crowd gasped and Alex, 41, pulled his jacket up over his face in shock, Vittorio added: ‘No, I think that it’s great!’
Penny tried to speak over the comedian, chiming in: ‘Let me respond to that, I would say that investing in our defence, in this particular week, it’s rather important…’
Vittorio cut her off again, adding: ‘No, in my defence, I’m on your side,’ but Penny ploughed on: ‘I don’t think you are, sweetheart.’
But the comedian continued: ‘I think it’s brilliant, war-mongering has always been a male-dominated industry. You’ve really smashed the glass ceiling. I’m very proud.’
Penny hit back: ‘I would like to take the opportunity to introduce you to some other women who put their lives on the line to defend people like you being able to do what you want to do in your life and make jokes about the government and enjoy the freedoms that we do in this country.’
Determined to have the final word, Vittoria concluded: ‘It’s a tough sell to a guy from Belfast,’ before the pair were cut off by host Adam, 55.
‘We are so short for time,’ Adam joked of the diversion from the show, adding: ‘And possibly a fight’s going to break out…’
Fans took to X to react to the shocking moment, calling it ‘the most amazing bit of TV’.

It comes after The Last Leg comedians Alex and Josh left fans in hysterics as they mocked Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s post-arrest release picture on Instagram.
Josh, 42, recreated the moment the former Duke of York was photographed in the back of a car leaving Aylsham police station in Norfolk shortly after 7pm on Thursday.
The Last Leg chat show hosts captioned the post: ‘Josh and Alex arriving into studio for a busy day. Pose look familiar?’
Fans reacted ruthlessly in the comments, penning: ‘This is brilliant’,
‘Superb’, ‘Nearly p***** myself laughing at this’, alongside hundreds of replies with laughing emojis.

Elsewhere, The Last Leg host Adam was forced to apologise after actor Brian Cox called Donald Trump a ‘c***’ three times during the live broadcast.
The Succession star unleashed a tirade at the President, 78, when he appeared on the late-night Channel 4 talk show on Friday.
Australian comedian Adam, 54, asked Cox: ‘I might be scared of where this is going to go but, what are your thoughts on Donald Trump so far, Brian?’
The Scottish actor 78, abruptly replied, ‘He’s a c***,’ prompting Adam to cover his face with both hands as the audience erupted into laughter.
Adam hastily said to the camera, ‘I apologise…’ as his co-host, comedian Alex Brooker laughed: ‘I knew that apology was coming!’
Comedian Michelle Wolf said: ‘They told me that was the one word I wasn’t allowed to say and I’m so glad you said it.’

Brian hit back: ‘Well they never told me what to say. I would have been happy not to say it but if somebody doesn’t call him a c***…’
Adam again faced the camera and told viewers: ‘I have to deeply apologise again. Let’s just assume I’m apologising for all of these.’
He then asked: ‘Are you not worried about being accosted by Trump fans?’
The Braveheart actor replied: ‘Me? I’m not going back to America, for that very reason. No, I mean, they’re all idiots anyway.’
After the ad break, Brian again called Trump a ‘c***’ while referring to his former onscreen son Jeremy Strong’s new film, The Apprentice, based on Trump’s reality show.
‘Of course I didn’t see The Apprentice because I wouldn’t watch anything about that c*** I mentioned earlier,’ he said, prompting Adam to issue another apology.
The Last Leg fans praised Brian’s profanity-laden speech on X, calling the actor a ‘legend’.
When asked for his thoughts about the Presidency so far, Brian said, ‘He’s a c***’
‘Brian Cox calling Trump a c*** three times is f***ing hilarious,’ one wrote.
‘Brian Cox calling Donald Trump a c*** is exactly what I want from live Friday night television,’ another added.
‘Brian Cox – legend,’ a third posted.
‘Brian Cox nails it in his first few words,’ someone else agreed.
Others blasted his explicit rant, with one viewer writing: ‘Brian Cox is a brilliant actor but his use of profanities on a woke show to gain some popularity is bordering on narcissistic.’
Brian has been outspoken in his criticism of Trump, saying he will ‘try to spend as much time’ in the UK as he can following the results of the US presidential election.
The Last Leg airs Fridays at 10pm on Channel 4.
