BREAKING: Sir Alex Ferguson, 84, was taken to the hospital after feeling unwell at Old Trafford before the match between Man United and Liverpool. Ferguson’s personal doctor has just revealed what happened, and his current condition has left everyone in shock, speechless

Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital before Manchester United’s game against Liverpool after feeling unwell.

The 84-year-old was at Old Trafford ready for the game on Sunday afternoon when he started feeling unwell around two hours before kick-off.

It is understood the legendary former United manager, who retired in 2013, was attended to by medical staff in the tunnel, with other personnel being told to vacate the area, before he was taken to hospital as a precaution. Club officials are understood to be optimistic Ferguson will soon be in good enough health to return home.

After 20 minutes of today’s game being played, the home fans started singing: “Every single one of us loves Sir Alex Ferguson.” Ferguson is a regular at United games despite stepping down from his role as global ambassador at the end of 2024-25 campaign with the club looking to cut costs. The Scot is still at the majority of United’s home games and is sometimes spotted supporting the team away from home.

Following the passing of his wife Cathy in 2023, who he was married to for 58 years, he spoke about the need to get out of the house to stop being isolated so he started travelling in addition to following the club he managed for 26 years.

“After my wife passed, I was stuck in the house a lot. I moved house, into the country, next door to my son — but it’s not good enough just to sit watching TV, so I decided to travel. I went to Saudi [Arabia], Hong Kong and Bahrain,” he said.

Ferguson has suffered from his own health problems in recent years. He had a brain haemorrhage in May 2018 and had life-saving surgery before returning back to full health.

“There were five brain haemorrhages that day,” Ferguson said in his 2021 Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In film. “Three died. Two survived. You know you are lucky.”

Ferguson had been preparing to watch Michael Carrick’s side face Liverpool with both teams looking to wrap up Champions League football for next season. United need just two points to confirm their return to Europe’s elite competition while Arne Slot’s team are on course for another campaign in the tournament, needing just four points to confirm their status with three league games remaining.
