Nearly four decades after their iconic TV debut, Richard Madeley, 70, has revealed that he and wife Judy Finnigan, 78, are gearing up for their first project together in five years — and fans could not be more excited.
Appearing on Vanessa Feltz’s Channel 5 show on Tuesday, Richard teased that the pair are exploring a new venture — this time, a podcast. “We’ve had a chat with a very good producer friend of ours, an ex-editor of This Morning, and we’ve kicked a few ideas around. It’s in the air, it’s a possibility,” he said.
Richard and Judy first captured audiences as the charismatic hosts of ITV’s This Morning throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The pair went on to launch their own Channel 4 chat show, Richard & Judy, which ran until 2009. Since then, they have made rare on-screen appearances, with their last joint project airing in 2020 on Richard & Judy: Keep Reading and Carry On.
While a return to television is off the table — “Judy was never really interested in all the fripperies of a TV career,” Richard explained — fans can look forward to hearing the duo’s chemistry in an entirely new format.
Their journey together has not always been without controversy. In 2014, Judy faced fierce backlash for remarks made on Loose Women regarding disgraced footballer Ched Evans, which prompted widespread outrage and personal attacks online. Richard defended their family, warning trolls that threats against their daughter, Chloe Madeley, would not be tolerated. Judy later left the panel and has since kept a lower profile.

Beyond the headlines, Richard shared a rare glimpse into their nearly 40-year love story. The couple first met at Granada Television while both going through divorces. “After about 14 months we were sent to Blackpool for promotions… we had dinner together, and suddenly, there was a kind of gear shift. Something changed,” he recalled. A shared taxi ride back to Manchester sealed the beginning of a partnership that has now lasted decades.
Today, Judy enjoys her quieter life away from screens, while Richard continues to charm audiences as a regular presenter on Good Morning Britain. With a podcast in the works, fans finally get a chance to see the legendary duo team up again — this time, on their own terms.
