Erin Napier Fights Back Tears as She Watches 'Heartbreaking' Fire Rip Through Just-Completed Hotel

Erin Napier Was Overcome With Emotion as Heirloom Hotel Burned in Devastating Fire

The May 31 finale of “Home Town: Inn This Together” ended with footage of the August 2025 fire that destroyed part of the hotel.

The four-part series followed the team as they transformed a 1930s department store into The Heirloom Hotel, with the final episode showing the project’s completion. As the episode came to a close, text on a black screen revealed: “Shortly after filming wrapped, disaster struck.”

Footage showed the fire ripping through the building as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

Erin was seen covering her mouth and fighting back tears as she watched the devastating moment unfold.

A news report playing in the background explained, “Thankfully there were no injuries during the fire. It was determined that the fire started at the top of the building. Water damage now lies in the lower floors.”

Her husband Ben noted in the episode, “To come as far as we have, and then to have something like this … It is devastating.”

Erin added, “It’s heartbreaking.”

Ben shared, “For Laurel, this hotel — it means a lot.”

Erin noted, “For a small town, it’s extremely important. And it makes you think, we gotta figure it out. We just gotta figure it out. You gotta keep going.”

The episode ended on a hopeful note: “With deep commitment and community support, the ‘Framily’ continues to restore the Heirloom building.”

Heirloom Hotel Owners Recall Arriving to the Fire

During the May 30 episode of “The Heirloom Podcast,” Jim Rasberry and Josh Nowell recalled how heartbreaking it was to learn about the hotel fire and arrive on the scene.

Nowell shared, “We started this podcast as we were rebuilding the biggest project of our life, a 25,000 square foot building in downtown Laurel is the culmination … 20 years of work.”

He continued, “It was something we’ve been wanting a long time, a hotel to serve our community and we were at the finish line. Moments away from opening it.”

Rasberry added, “It’s really tough to look back and try to see what’s going to come from this.”

Nowell said “it was so painful to watch” their dream go up in flames.

Rasberry noted, “The whole knots in your stomach thing, like that’s a real thing. And throughout the morning watching this fire take over was just really difficult to watch.”

“Because what’s happening along the way is, when you live something every day for two years … two years this has been, if not a part of our daily activity, a part of our daily conversation, and certainly on our minds every day,” he added.

Nowell noted, “You are watching your lifetime work burn and that’s a very hard thing to see because there’s no certainty of what’s going to happen on the other side. No matter what people believe, there’s no certainty of what’s going to happen next.”
