Sky News was interrupted for a breaking update on the ongoing wildfires in parts of France, with correspondent Sadiya Chowdhury at the centre of the unfolding situation. The raging wildfires across both Spain and France have forced 270,000 people to flee, with Bordeaux in France now sending an evacuation warning as the flames approach the metropolitan area of the city.
Reporting live from Bordeaux, Sadiya appeared on a road with a huge cloud of black smoke visible behind here. She explained how they travelled exactly to where the fire was and could see the flames, but were forced to flee the area for safety. “It’s a very dangerous situation. We’ve had to withdraw,” she said. “There’s black smoke coming out. We went right to the front line where the fire is and could see the flames.”
“It’s an enormous operation,” she added. The camera panned around to show a number of vehicles gathered near the flames, with Sadiya revealing it’s a mini coordination centre made up of the fire service, the military, the police and local farmers who are working together to combat the “unpredictable” fire.
