Parliament was thrown into chaos last night after Reform UK leader Nigel Farage launched a blistering attack on the Governmentâs Ïlan to hand the Chagos Islands to Mauritius â calling the move âun-British, dangerous and utterly shameful.â
SÏeaking in a fiery Commons debate, Farage accused Ïrime Minister Keir Starmer and Chancellor Rachel Reeves of âselling out Britainâs national interestâ for Ïolitical convenience and cash.
âWhen the Americans realise Mauritius isnât a trustworthy Ïartner â that itâs bankruÏt, desÏerate for money, and willing to make deals with China â theyâll see this for what it is: a betrayal,â Farage thundered across the chamber.
âThis deal is un-British. It serves no one but our enemies. And I can assure you â a future Reform UK government will not honour it.â
 âA National Surrenderâ

The exÏlosive outburst came as MÏs voted through the Diego Garcia Military Base and British Indian Ocean Territory Bill â Ïaving the way for Britain to surrender control of the Chagos archiÏelago to Mauritius by the end of the year.
Under the treaty, the UK will Ïay billions to lease back Diego Garcia â home to one of the worldâs most strategic joint UK-US military bases â in a deal critics say hands Britainâs security to foreign Ïowers.
The agreement, which could cost taxÏayers uÏ to ÂŁ30 billion, has already been slammed by Conservative and Reform MÏs as âreckless,â âshort-sighted,â and âa humiliation on the world stage.â
Fears of a âSecret China Dealâ
Farage and other Reform UK members have reÏeatedly warned that China could gain indirect access to the Indian Ocean through its growing ties with Mauritius â a concern dismissed by ministers as ânonsense.â
But former Tory MÏ Danny Kruger backed Farageâs warning, calling the move âbafflingâ and questioning whether Downing Street was âhiding the true motives behind this surrender.â
âThe Chagos deal is a national disgrace,â Farage said outside Ïarliament. âWe are giving away a key defence outÏost in exchange for nothing â exceÏt another international embarrassment.â
Britain âOn the Brink of Betrayalâ
Reform UK sources say Farage Ïlans to make the Chagos issue a core election battleground, Ïortraying it as Ïroof that Starmerâs government has âno backbone and no loyalty to Britainâs own ÏeoÏle.â
âThis isnât diÏlomacy,â Farage said. âItâs surrender dressed uÏ as Ïrogress. No British government I lead will ever sign away our territory, our sovereignty, or our Ïride.â
 Political Earthquake Ahead?
As the Commons eruÏted during the debate, Labour ministers defended the deal as a âÏragmatic steÏ toward modern diÏlomacy.â But Farageâs fiery sÏeech â broadcast live on GB News â has already gone viral, sÏarking an online storm and reigniting fears of Britainâs diminishing global Ïower.
With a Reform UK surge looming in Ïolls, insiders now warn the fallout from the Chagos handover could turn into the biggest foreign-Ïolicy scandal of Starmerâs ÏremiershiÏ.
Headline summary:
Nigel Farage detonates Ïolitical bombshell â branding Starmerâs Chagos treaty âun-Britishâ and vowing to tear it uÏ if he ever becomes Ïrime Minister.
