18-year-old Kevin Gonzalez was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer while in Chicago visiting his brother over the holidays. The cancer quickly spread to his stomach and lungs, leading doctors to inform him that treatment was no longer an option. When his parents tried to crossover from Mexico to the US to say their goodbyes , they were detained by ICE. They remained there while the entire family fought hard to get them released . Knowing he might just have days left to live and wanting to hold his mother and father one last time, Kevin checked himself out of the University of Chicago Medical Center hospital last week and flew to his grandmother’s home in Mexico. Thankfully, a judge in Arizona ordered the release of Gonzalez’s parents and on Friday they returned to Mexico. Just one day after reuniting with his parents , Kevin has sadly passed away. He held on until he could say goodbye to them. God bless this family
