The Los Angeles wildfires in January devastated so many homes, including Zooey Deschanel and her sister Emily Deschanelâs family home. Luckily, she has recruited her fiancĂ©, HGTVâs âProperty Brothersâ star Jonathan Scott, to help rebuild the house in the Pacific Palisades.
Zooey Deschanel & Jonathan Scottâs Rebuild Project
Deschanel and Scott have been engaged since 2023, and together they are working on fixing up the home. âWeâre rebuilding my parentsâ house. Weâre rebuilding their house in non-combustible materials â itâs really cool to learn about all that,â she told People. She continued, âWe just started. It takes a while to get everything designed. It takes a while to just get everything squared away.â This is excellent news for the family, and their 1920s Spanish revival house will be restored to all its glory.
Zooey Deschanelâs Beautiful Family Home
This is not the first time the actress has discussed her parentsâ home. In January, she posted several photos on Instagram of the house in its glory days, then another showing it after the fire. The combination of photos paints a heartbreaking picture of a couple in their 80s losing their home, a place where so many cherished memories were made.
In the postâs caption, Deschanel shared her thoughts in an emotional message. âMy childhood home. A marvel of 1920s Spanish revival architecture,â she began. âFull of too many incredible memories to count, it was one of the oldest homes in the Palisades and so spectacularly beautiful. It was not a mansion, but it was cozy and lovely and unique and perfect to me. One of my friends growing up called it âThe Churchâ because the 14-foot ceilings with stained glass windows in the living room cast colorful shadows at the end of the day. And to me it was holy, a sanctuary where we felt most safe.â
She listed some of the memories they have from their time in the home, including Christmas and birthdays. It was not just the home that was affected by the fire, but all of the belongings within it, including artwork, the âfamily photos that lined the hallways,â and âthe furniture my great-great-grandfather built.â
Deschanel acknowledged how so many other families had also been impacted by the fires, but ended her message with gratitude. She thanked all those who helped put out the fires, those who rallied around the family during their time of need, and those who helped her parents who were âleft with nothing.â Fans rallied around Deschanel in the postâs comments, sending their love and well-wishes.
