Mina Starsiak Hawk is leaning on love from her HGTV family after sharing heartbreaking news — the loss of her cherished dog, Frank.
The Good Bones alum took to Instagram on Friday, September 26, posting a screenshot from Facebook along with treasured photos that captured her bond with Frank over the past seven years. Her message was raw and deeply personal.
“I haven’t been ready to share, but I know a lot of you watched Frank grow up and have a place in your hearts for him as well,” Mina began. “He had cancer and passed a couple weeks ago. He spent his time towards the end lounging at my side while I worked or eating hot dogs at every one of Jack’s baseball games and getting all the pets and love.”
For Mina, Frank wasn’t just a dog — he was family. She described him as “the most amazing companion to Steve and I and the kids,” adding that he had been a comforting presence during both struggles and celebrations. “He’s with his sisters now across the rainbow bridge and no longer is pain,” she continued. “We definitely still are struggling without him and will be for some time. A void is left which makes you ask yourself, why even fall in love with a pup to begin with. But looking at any single picture of him, it’s so worth the love he gave while we had him.”
Her tribute closed with simple but powerful words: “Love you, Franky. 🐾” Alongside the caption, fans saw a carousel of snapshots showing Frank with Mina, her husband Steve Hawk, and their children, Jack, 7, and Charlotte, 5 — a timeline of love and companionship.

The post quickly drew heartfelt responses from across the HGTV community. Rock the Block star Ty Pennington wrote, “😭💔 I’m so sorry you guys! I just wish they would figure out how to give us more time with these creatures already 😩💔.” Help! I Wrecked My House host Jasmine Roth added, “Awww so sorry friends! It’s so hard. He was so loved and lived such a great life. 😍😍😍.” Mina’s former Good Bones costar Michael J. Coyle simply left a string of red hearts, while fans poured in thousands of condolences, recalling Frank’s appearances on screen.
“My deepest condolences 💐 It was so fun watching Frank, such a sweetheart 🧡,” one follower shared. Another wrote, “I remember watching Good Bones when he was a puppy and he would be right there along with you. He was loved for sure 😢❤️🐾.”
Frank wasn’t just a family pet; he became part of the Good Bones story. Over nine seasons from 2016 to 2024, fans often spotted him alongside Mina and her mother, Karen Laine, as they transformed houses across Indianapolis. His presence brought warmth and relatability to the show, making him a fan favorite in his own right.
Now, though his journey on earth has ended, Frank’s memory continues in every moment Mina shared — from baseball games to construction sites — and in the hearts of those who watched him grow up on screen.
