Kim Wolfe and Chelsea Meissner were named the winners of Rock the Block Season 7.
HGTV fans shared their opinions on the finale via social media, with many expressing disappointment over the results.
Wolfe and Meissner defended their designs in an exclusive interview with TV Insider, but also admitted that a homeowner could potentially tweak things to their personal taste.
Rock the Block has crowned its latest winning team, but not all HGTV fans are happy with the result.
The show’s latest round of competition came to an end during the Season 7 finale on Monday, May 25. The episode saw the teams complete their Las Vegas properties by renovating their homes’ front yards, courtyards, and exteriors.
As in seasons past, appraisers evaluated each home to determine which team added the most financial value. Throughout the season, the winners of each week also had the chance to increase their home’s value by adding $1,000 to their final appraisal, instead of $3,000 to their budget. The finale ultimately ended with Kim Wolfe and Chelsea Meissner being named as Season 7’s winning duo.
HGTV shared a clip of the winning moment via Instagram on Wednesday, May 27, writing, “No one does a dramatic countdown like #RockTheBlock! Congrats to all the teams on an amazing season.”
Fans filled the post’s comments with their opinions, with many expressing disappointment over the results. “Listen to the fans… we tuned in week after week that led to this disappointing finale that felt rigged,” one Instagram user stated. “I’m sure everyone worked hard but between that bizarre theater space, 2 less bedrooms, and that vintage non-functioning fireplace in the bathroom…ain’t no way it was the highest appraised.”
The user went on to suggest, “Y’all should add a viewer’s choice winner and y’all should show the appraisals.”
How HGTV Fans Can Visit ‘Rock the Block’ Season 7 Houses
Another fan asked, “Can we get a real breakdown of the appraisal and how the appraisers pick the winner? When we talk about added value being bedrooms and bathrooms and closet space we, as fans, really want to understand how the winner is chosen and why.”
Someone else shared, “I thought they would be in last place! [Taniya Nayak] and Drew [Lachey] should have won, it was beautiful. I loved Mina [Starsiak Hawk]‘s too!” A separate commenter said, “Should have been Taniya & Drew or Scott [McGillivray] & Brooke [Hogan]. I mean, anyone except who won.”
A different person agreed with the appraisers’ decision, writing, “Buyers at that price point are looking for carefully curated, beautifully unique places with high end design. They aren’t looking for rental ops. Kim and Chelsea killed it and I’m glad they won!” Someone else joked, “Lol people are so mad. I liked it. No one’s home was way better than the other. Who did you want to win??”
Over on Reddit, one person said the reason they were “shocked” that Wolfe and Meissner won was not solely because of their design picks, but rather, “The show had been giving Scott & Brooke (and to an extent Vernon [Davis] & Mina) a winner’s edit all season long.”
A different user posted that their “jaw actually dropped” over the results. In a response to their post, another person wrote, “Mine too! Literally. And my mouth stayed open for a while— from genuine shock. And I like Kim and Chelsea! But they shouldn’t have won.”
HGTV
In an exclusive interview with TV Insider, Wolfe and Meissner said they were proud of their home’s overall renovation, but understand if its eventual owner will make some adjustments. “I totally understand personalizing spaces like bedrooms or offices, because those should reflect the homeowner,” Meissner shared. Referring to the team’s controversial multi-gen suite makeover, she added, “I have a strong feeling the homeowner will completely change our theatre room. Breaks my heart, but I’ll understand. That install will live with me forever!”
Wolfe, for her part, said, “The homeowners can do absolutely whatever they want. From years of experience doing HGTV remodels, I’ve learned that one man’s favorite is another man’s least favorite. I want whoever buys and lives in this house for it to feel like their dream house, not mine. Hopefully our taste overlaps…otherwise they’ve got a lot of work to do.”
