Owens Corning is passionate about empowering homeowners to elevate the exterior look of their home with dignity and design. No matter the size of your home or budget, everyone deserves a roof that not only protects but is aesthetically pleasing and a true reflection of individual style.
For the residents of the Fitzgerald community, getting a new roof wasn’t a nice-to-have—it was essential for staying in their homes and neighborhood. A roof transformation for them needed to go beyond mere satisfaction; it needed to be much more. After all, when getting a new roof, you shouldn’t just like your results—you should LOVE them.
Owens Corning Roofing will partner with Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas of HGTV’s hit show ‘Bargain Block’ to donate roofing material to the “Roof the Block” project for the Fitzgerald neighborhood of Detroit. The goal of the project is to emphasize the critical need for new roofs to assist long-time residents to continue residing in their homes. It underscores the need to maintain the integrity of the roofing system to prevent water damage to the structure and contents. The “Roof the Block” project is being done in conjunction with the nonprofit organization Brilliant Detroit and the Relentless Care Foundation, the charitable branch of Community Financial Credit Union.
Owens Corning has donated material for all 14 homes in the project.
KEITH & EVAN REVEAL THE SELECTED NEW ROOF RECIPIENTS
Residents of the Fitzgerald neighborhood gathered at Brilliant Detroit, a local non-profit, to find out if they had been chosen to receive a new roof. Originally slated to give away 10 roofs, the Roof the Block initiative raised enough money and roofing materials to complete the roofs for all 14 homeowners who applied. The homeowners were surprised and thrilled by the news. There was plenty of Roof Love™ going around.
RESIDENTS PARTICIPATE IN A PERSONAL ROOF DESIGN CONSULTATION
The residents knew that Keith and Evan were already in the neighborhood renovating houses for their show, Bargain Block. They appreciated the exterior improvements being made, house by house. Upon hearing the news that they would receive a free roof through the Roof the Block initiative, each homeowner had a personal consultation with Keith and Evan to discuss shingle color options. Having a choice of colors gave them a sense of empowerment and control over their own project. The goal was to provide them with a roof they would truly love.
This project, featured in the upcoming season six of the show, took place in Detroit’s Fitzgerald neighborhood. We donated roofing materials for 14 homes to help residents stay in their beloved community.
Hear from Keith and Evan as they discuss the importance of designing with dignity, starting with the roof.
