Jasmine Roth Shares the “๐ถ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐” Reason She Left California for Utah

It’s been more than a year sinceย Jasmine Rothย and her family moved from California to Utah, and interior designer andย HGTVย star is still getting constant questions about why she migrated east. Of course, Roth has every right to keep her reasoning to herself; but she did just share an Instagram post on the topic where she opened up more than she ever has before.
Read on for everything we know about why Jasmine Roth, best known for hosting HGTV’sย Help! I Wrecked My Houseย andย Hidden Potential,ย moved to Utah.
Jasmine Roth Moved to Park City, Utah for a Calmer Lifestyle
Overall, Jasmine Roth moved to Utah in search of a calmer lifestyle than she had in California.
In aย post shared to Instagramย on Oct. 21, 2025, Roth admitted that she has a different answer to the question “Why did you move to Utah?” each day, “probably because the real answer is complicated, itโs layered, itโs too long for casual conversation.”
“We moved to Utah because we were chasing a sense of ‘calm’ that we couldnโt quite find in California,” she continued, even though she believes inner calm is “internal and probably more rooted in personality traits than a change of scenery.”
But still, the Built Custom Homes founder, her husband Brett Roth, and their two young daughters Hazel and Darla have been able to find what they were looking for in Utah. “Thereโs definitely a lot ‘less’ here … but itโs helping us make room for a whole lot ‘more.’ More time together, more quiet, more nature, more focus, and overall more calm,” Roth wrote.
Jasmine Roth Also Has a Long History With Park City, Utah
Us Weeklyย first reported on Roth leaving Orange County, Calif. for Park City, Utah in June 2024.
โMy husband grew up going here, going snowboarding and vacationing here [in Park City].ย We got married hereย in 2013 and then in 2015, we bought a little condo as our first little getaway that we used a lot,โ Rothย told the magazineย in September 2024. โEach year, we just started spending more and more time here. It got to the point where we were like, โShould we just move?โโ
At the time, Roth had been working in Utah’s real estate market for nearly 10 years, so the move made sense career-wise, too.
That said, Roth has been searching for the right words to answer the question “Why did you move?” ever since she made the move. In a Januaryย Instagram post, she explained that she didn’t “really have a great answer” to the question.
“I stumble through a story about how [Brett Roth] and I love snowboarding (we do!) and while thatโs true, is that really the reason?” she wrote. “Is it because we were ready for a change? Is it because we wanted a slower pace? Is it because we needed a new challenge? Is it the nature? The seasons? Is it that Utah is our happy place? All of these reasons are true, but it feels like a lot to rattle off when trying to answer a casual question.”
Overall, it seems like the Roth family is enjoying the calmer pace of their Utah lifestyle. Not only that, but Jasmine Roth has grown more comfortable discussing the complicated motivation behind her move.
